Tractor Repair: 574 oil seal, input shaft, oil side

Question
could you tell me the corret way to install the oil seals. The inner seal was installed with open side or the side with the spring towards the rear of the tractor and it was flush with the front side of the casing so that it was not rubbing on any rotating parts behind it.The front seal was installed in the bearing carier the opposite way, open side to the front. All the bearings feel tight with very little end play in the shafts.

Answer
I will assume you are referring to the transmission input shaft seals.  The side of the seal with the spring needs to face the rear of the tractor for both seals, not just one of them.  These seals are supposed to keep the oil in the transmission and out of the clutch housing.  The lip of a seal with the spring on it always needs to face the oil side.
