Tractor Repair: No spark, new distributor cap, international harvester

Question
I have a 1947 International Harvester. I went out and bought a new distributor cap because the old one was cracked. All of the timing marks are lined up and i get a spark through the cables, but when connected to the spark plugs i get no spark.  We pulled the magneto out but I'm not sure if I got it back in correctly. We have tried everything that we can see bout no luck. I am also wondering if the order of the pistons from front to back are 1234.     HELP!!!!

Answer
The order of the cylinders is 1234 from front to back, but the firing order should be 1342.  Not sure what you mean when you say you have spark through the cables but no spark when connected to the spark plugs.  If there is spark through the cables there would have to be spark at the spark plugs unless the spark plugs are bad.  There are points and condenser inside the magneto also that maybe need some attention.  Sorry, but I really have no way of knowing if you have the magneto installed or timed correctly without seeing it.  With the number one piston at top dead center on compression stroke, the rotor must point at the terminal on the distributor cap that goes to the number one spark plug.  Then the rest of the wires should be connected so that they go to cylinders 3, 4, and 2 in that order according to which ever direction the rotor turns.
