Tractor Repair: CIH 5140 injector pump timing, diesel repair, injector pump

Question
I had the injector pump rebuilt and installed it yesterday.  When I took it off I locked the engine in place with the pin located under the pump.  I pulled the front gear and removed the pump.  When I put the pump back on, it seems to be out of time.  will not start, and emits a lot of white smoke when turning over.  I changed one pump before on a 1466, but it was totally different.  How do I time this one?  Thanks for the help.

Answer
This type of pump has a lock bolt that you can use to lock the pump in the postion it was in before it was removed from the engine.  That way when the diesel repair place puts it back in that position, you can install it on the engine with no problems as long as the engine has not been turned.  If it was not locked when you removed it from the engine, the place that rebuilt the pump may have put it in a different position.  It sounds like it may be 180 degrees out of time which would require you to loosen the pump gear again and turn the pump shaft exactly 1/2 turn and then install the gear again.  If that doesn't work, you may have to get the place that rebuilt the pump to time the pump for you before you install it again because it requires special tools.
