Tractor Repair: Grinding gears part 2, crankshaft seal, grinding gears

Question
Thanks for the answer Arnie, using the Case 485 this weekend, I tried to put both the range lever and the gear lever in the neutral position and moving either lever while the other was left in neutral while I did not press the clutch also resulted in the tractor wanting to creep and grear grinding even if it was much less pronounced. The fact I was not pressing the clutch made me second guessing the clutch issue. I am still planning on splitting and replacing the clutch kit anyway, but i do not want to end up putting everything together and finding out it was something different. I guess I can rule out a warped clutch, but can one of the 2 bearings included in the kit be the culprit or should I look somewhere else while it is open.

Answer
The clutch release bearing will not cause the clutch to drag, but the pilot bearing could.  It is always best to replace everything when doing a clutch job.  The disk, pressure plate, pilot bearing, release bearing, resurface the flywheel, and possibly replace the rear crankshaft seal and input shaft seal.  That way you've got everything covered and you only have to do the job once.  There really is nothing else that it can be but a clutch problem.  If it is hard to shift and grinds gears and feels like the clutch is dragging, it's not a transmission problem, it's a clutch problem.
