Tractor Repair: powershift on 2096 Case, clutch packs, pressure switches

Question
Recently bought 2096 Case, 20 yrs. old 850 hrs. Excellent shape . Tractor jumps big time when you powershift up 1'st to 2'nd ( after it warms up), shifting down from 3'rd to 2'nd it's more of a jerk. When she gets hot cannot even shift out of 1'st. Haven't worked on it at all yet but would like to use this tractor for seeding soon.
85% of farm mach. repairs are done by ourselves but we also have a great farm mechanic who comes in when we need him. He has never worked with a powershift before.  Any help would be appreciated !!

Answer
A 2096 has an electrically controlled powershift.  When you move the powershift lever, you are activating a switch that sends power to different relays which in turn send power to solenoids on the powershift control valve, which send oil to different clutch packs in the transmission.  There is nothing you can adjust to control how fast the clutches engage to try to smooth out the shifts.  There are a couple of pressure switches on the powershift control valve that control clutch engagement to provide some overlap of speeds.  I have seen a bad pressure switch cause extremely rough shifting so you might want to try replacing them.  The control valve is on the right side of the transmission just to the rear of the battery box.  DO NOT GET ANY OF THE WIRES MIXED UP!
