Tractor Repair: hydraulic problem, hydraulic problem, clevis pin

Question
QUESTION: i have an 1974 1066 international turbo. my 3 point does n ot have power to lift a large bale, was told it has a new pump, sometimes when i move the levers for the auxiliary valves"rear remotes" it will work fine and raise the bale. doesn't make a diff if it is in heavy or light draft mode, also my draft lever wont stay where i put it. it keeps snapping back to the heavy position. is there a adjustment for the draft lever to tighten it up? the tractor has been split and a new ta and clutch has been installed, not by me. i just bought it. also my clutch brake doesn't work, grinds when putting into gear. is this all related? i have been looking on the case websight in the diff hyd controls and don't know where to start. i was a ford car mech for 22 years and can pretty much tear anything apart. but i don't want to just start tearing things up without some more info. thanks! hope this isn't too much, but i always found more info the better.

ANSWER:   It may be a weak relief valve for the hydraulic system.  It is located on the hydraulic housing under the seat.  If it sometimes works when you move a remote lever, then there could be something wrong with the 3 point hitch valve.  There is a friction adjustment under the lever quadrant to keep the levers in place.  Internationals are pretty famous for shifting problems and gears grinding, but there is an adjustment for the clutch brake that may help.  It is not related to anything with the hydraulic system.  Remove the clevis pin from the clutch brake rod and have someone hold down the clutch pedal.  Adjust the clevis on the rod until the holes line up and the pin can be inserted, then unscrew the clevis one more turn.  There is a brake pad that can wear out, but if it was worn out it should have been replaced when the TA was replaced.

QUESTION: i removed the check valve and found hard plastic pieces plugging the valve and also the valve that comes out the front of the housing. the friction adjustment was off. what are you calling the 3 point valve and where is it at? thanks for your help!

Answer
The valve that controls the 3 point hitch and the lift cylinder are inside the tractor underneath the lift cover on top of the rear end of the tractor.  Not easy to get at, the entire platform and lift cover would have to be removed.  Usually a last resort after using the process of elimination to narrow down the cause of the problem.  If the pump and relief valve are verified to be good, the problem then has to be in the lift cylinder or hitch control valve.  If you raise the hitch and shut off the tractor, the hitch should not settle down more than a couple of inches overnight.  If it drops alot, then there is an internal leak in the valve or cylinder.
