Tractor Repair: jd410 back hoe, ground connections, ground cable

Question
My throttle cable get's hot enough to melt the insulation, I just replaced it the tractor does not start but when I turn it over the cable get hot. I have to disconnect the terminal. I have no lights or any other electrical components other than the ignition and fuel, tach and temp.

Answer
I normally don't answer questions on construction equipment, but this is an easy one.  Your battery ground cable is not making a good connection to the chassis, or the engine and starter are not getting a good ground connection to the chassis.  The throttle cable is acting as the ground when you try to start it, and the cable gets hot.  Clean all the ground connections of paint, rust, etc. and make sure they are tight.  Check for a ground strap on the engine block or the starter that goes to the frame.
