Tractor Repair: David Brown Fuel Shut-off, little lever, diesel pump

Question
I have a 1972 David Brown 885.  The fuel shut-off cable broke, when the new after market one arrived it pulled out to shut off not out to run.  When I went to attach it to the tractor fuel system the little lever appeared loose.  After I tighten the lever and attached the cable it doesn't do anything.  It doesn't matter if it is held up or down the tractor runs just fine

Answer
does it turn off if you pull the little lever outside.if so the cable needs to be adjusted.i suspect that when you tightened it up that the lever moved on the shaft.loosen it hold it to the running position and tighten it again.the shaft that its onto could be worn and may need replacing but that would be a job for a diesel pump repair shop
