Tractor Repair: Ford 2000 posi-traction, differential lock, running board

Question
Hello Arnie:

I just inhereted a 1970's Ford 2000, and it is stuck! Only one wheel spins when trying to get it out of the mud it is in...is there a way to switch to both wheels turning with power?  I tried the 2 levers on the side of the tranny, which turned out to be the PTO and the 3 point hydraulics.

Thanks for any help getting both wheels to turn under power.

Have a good night and thanks for what you do to help out! --JD

Answer
Hello,

If yours has a differential lock feature, it would be a small pedal at the rear of the platform, cab floor, or running board (however yours is equipped) usually on the right side that you push down and hold with your heel.  Not all tractors have it, so I have no way of knowing if yours has this feature.  On tractors without it, the only way to transfer some power to the other wheel is to apply the brake on the side that is spinning.  It would be nice if you could have power to both wheels all the time, but unfortunately you would never be able to steer and turn a corner.  The front wheels would just slide.
