Tractor Repair: IH 986 lower link hydraulic leak (LH side), loc tite, slide hammer

Question
I have an International 986 that leaks hydraulic oil from the lower rear reservoir.  The lower link arm torsion shaft runs through this reservoir and holds the splined lower link mount.  This mount has play even though I have replaced the O-ring in the retaining ring and the outer O-ring with Case-IH parts.  I have also inserted 120 thousandth's shims in an attempt to better seat this assembly into the housing, my leak persists.  I fail to see the any seal between the housing and retaining ring.

May 29th  Hello,

According to the service manual, the o-ring retainers are a tight press fit into the rear frame of the tractor and it shows removing them with a slide hammer with jaws that hook into the inside of the retainer.  The manual also states that to prevent possible seepage around the retainer, loc-tite compound should be applied to the outside surface of the retainer before driving it into the housing.  There are bushings driven into the housing behind the retainers that are probably worn, allowing the shaft to have too much lateral movement.  If the retainer fits loose in the housing, you may need the services of a machine shop to repair the housing or modify the retainer so that it is a tight fit.

May 28th  Hello,

I will have to research this to try to come up with an answer that will help.  Due to the Memorial Day weekend, I won't be able to answer until next week.  I will do a follow up to this question some time next week.
