Tractor Repair: John Deere injection pump, compression stroke, compression test

Question
I want to have the injection pump  rebuilt on my 1979 John Deere 301A tractor. I can't seem to find where the timing marks are to know that the timing will be correct when I put the pump back in. Can you tell me what I need to do to before I remove the pump? The tractor starts and does not smoke but it doesn't make enough power. I had a compression test done 320 - 320 - 315 were the readings. I was told that there is a governor spring inside the pump that is probably broken not allowing full power.

Any help that you can provide would be much appreciated.

Answer
Besides the pwoer concerns everything sounds good.
The spring might be broken not allowing the pump to open up all the way killing your power.
You will need to bring this engine to top dead center on the compression stroke on #1 cylinder.
You should be able to find the timing marks on the flywheel, if you remove the inspection cover.
If you remove the front cover that covers the timing gear for the injection pump, you should be able to line up marks on the gears .
Let me know what happens and we can go from there.
If you would please rate my answer, Thanks
