Tractor Repair: massey ferguson 135 Diesel, mf 135 hyd issues.

Question
I recently had to replace the hydraulic pump for the lift on the tractor and since then It will not hold anything at the height that you set it. It seems to do okay when you do not have a piece of equipment on it. It has the two levers on the lift, although I am not sure of the year model. Is there anything that I can do to correct this.  Thank you

Answer
First thing, what was the reason for replacing the hydraulic pump?
Does the lift pulsate up and down or is it a steady drop? (control valve issue)
Does it help the 3pt if you lift up on it by hand at the same time it is raising. (Leaking lift cylinder)
Now to the issue at hand.
There are several things that can cause this problem.
Simplest things first.

Low hyd. oil level.
Wrong type of oil.
Leakage at the lift cylinder piston. This is the cylinder that is located in the transmission housing under the seat that actually lifts the 3pt.
oil leakage at the control levers.

Since we are not sure of the year some models have a screen at the suction line to prevent forein materials from entering the system. Check and clean this screen.
You can take the gear shifter cover off and operate the tractor, and see what the oil looks like.
If it appears to have a frothy, or foamy look to it you have air getting into the system.
Check in the housing and be sure a line has not come loose or is leaking. I have seen this happen
If you have a service manual it will show you how to adjust the control linkages.
These need adjusting sometimes because of wear or they can get bent.
Let me what you find out and we can go from there.
