Tractor Repair: MF 275 clutch engagement, broken shaft, clutch pedal

Question
While working with the f end loader, tractor just stopped moving. Clutch had not been slipping but was probably warm from 2 hrs of work. Will go into all gears and pedal has tension like pressure plate is activating, and in low 1st will even try to move forward some. There is some oil leakage from the main seal but hasn't been a probem before. What do you think I'm looking at doing? Thanks for any help. PS. also tried it when tractor was completely cold and same thing.

Answer
Hello,

If it tries to move a little in low, then at least you know there isn't a broken shaft in the transmission or something.  Make sure the clutch pedal has some free travel and adjust it if necessary.  Try applying each brake one at a time to see if it makes a difference.  If it does, the differential could have failed.  I have seen axle keys sheared where the rear wheel is attached to the axle, but I don't know what kind of wheels or axles your tractor has.  It is most likely a clutch problem.
