Tractor Repair: Wiring diagram, delco alternator, ballast resistor

Question
QUESTION: I HAVE A INTERNATIONAL "A" THAT WAS CHANGED OVER TO A 12 VOLT SYSTEM. THE WIRING WAS IN BAD SHAPE SO I STARTED TO REPLACE THEM. I REALLY THINK I HAVE SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE NOW THE ALTERNATOR DOES WORK. DO YOU HAVE A GOOD WIRING DIAGRAM?
WOULD IT BE BECAUSE I DIDN'T INSTALL THE ONE AMP/50VOLT DIODE BETWEEN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND #1 TERMINAL FOR MY ALTERNATOR GOING BAD? i HATE TO SMOKE ANOTHER ALTERNATOR.  Thanks!!

ANSWER: I do not have access to a wiring diagram for that dinosaur. But I know that if you have an alternator with internal regulator you need to have a resistor on #1 terminal to reduce the voltage to like 7 or 8 volts otherwise you can fry the regulator.  Do that and you should have no problems with letting the smoke out.

QUESTION: Now I have a ballast resistor going to the coil. Are you talking about a different type of resistor that also needed?

Thanks again,

Answer
If you are using a ac delco alternator then yes you need a resistor to terminal one of the alternator. It will save the regulator from going bad early. I you don't then expect to change it yearly. I know  a john deere part number and I will update this question tomorrow if you have a jd dealer near you. The part number is ar55283  hook it up and it should help you out.
