Tractor Repair: FARMALL 806, main hydraulic system, oil leaks, point hitch

Question
hello,
to start out the filters and fluid have been recently changed. the 3 point hitch works fine, when i was haying it would pick up my 1500# disc mower. i have only one pair of remotes and they would not raise the kuhn gmd66 hd disc mower bar[it is a very small cylinder], without somebody lifting on the outer end. today i hooked a 2000 psi gauge to a pioneer tip and put it into the couplers. the top coupler works when you push the lever forward, and it went to 800psi then dropped back to 500psi. on the bottom coupler[pulling the lever back] it went to 1000psi and when i let off it went to zero. i'm guessing the pump may be weak, but shouldn't the pressure hold when you move the valve back to neutral? thankyou for taking the time to answer this,
loren

Answer
Hello,

It sounds like you may have more than one problem.  The pump pressure should be about 2000 psi. so you could have a bad pump or relief valve.  The pressure will bleed off slowly when you return to neutral, but should not drop right back to zero.  It should hold for a couple of minutes at least.  If you have no visible oil leaks on the outside, then the remote valve may be no good.
