Tractor Repair: Allis Chalmers B clutch, allis chalmers, clutch pedal

Question
I have a 1952 Allis Chalmers "B" tractor that the clutch seems to be stuck to the flywheel. The tractor has been sitting up inside of a dirt floor barn for about a year or a little longer. The clutch released very high on the pedal before it was parked. I guess I need to know how to adjust the clutch and if i should spray wd-40 all inside the bell housing before trying anything else? Do you know of a good way to get it unstuck with out splitting the tractor apart or hurting any other parts? Thanks, Frankie

Answer
Hello,

You can try starting it in gear and hitting the brakes really hard while holding down the clutch pedal, but since they never had decent brakes I doubt that they would hold enough to break it loose.  I have had success chaining it to a large tree and leaving lots of slack in the chain so that I could start it in gear and hold down the clutch pedal and let the tires dig until it broke loose.  It depends on how bad it is stuck.  If it's stuck real bad, you will probably end up splitting it.  Not a big deal since they are very easy to split.  If it was stored inside a barn and out of the weather, it shouldn't be stuck too hard.  Spraying WD40 or anything else in there will not work, so don't even bother trying it.
