Tractor Repair: 800 Ford Tractor, Creeping, clutch packs, clutch pedal

Question
Hello,
I'm helping out my Father in Law. He has a Ford 800 Tractor that starts and engine runs Great. How ever when you put the transmission into gear you need to throttle up on the RPM's just to get the tractor to move. When the tractor starts to move it will move enough to pull a small incline. Please advise.

Answer
Hello,

It depends on what transmission it has.  If it has a standard transmission, make sure the clutch pedal has about an inch of free travel.  Adjust the length of the rod from the pedal to the clutch until it's correct.  If it already has free travel, then the clutch is worn out and will have to be replaced.

If it has a select-o-speed transmission, either the pressure could be low, or the clutch packs and bands are worn out.
