Tractor Repair: Ford 3000 will not start, ford 3000 tractor, neutral safety switch

Question
My name is Scott Lewis and I have Ford 3000 tractor (gas) that will not turn
over.  I have recently change the battery, negative cable due to corrosion and
the solenoid.  I pulled out the light switch and the lights work great, which
makes me believe that their is sufficient voltage going to solenoid.  Could it
be the started switch or maybe the starter itself?  I did pull the start out and I
will be having it tested tomorrow.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for you time,

SRL

Answer
Hello,

Check the voltage going into the ignition switch and coming out of the switch to energise the solenoid.  If there is power coming out in the crank position, the switch is good and possibly there is a problem in the wiring or a neutral safety switch.  You can check to make sure the starter works by jumping the terminals on the solenoid to bypass the ignition switch, neutral switch, and wiring.  But have the ignition switch turned off when you do it so there's no chance of it starting in gear and running over you.
