Tractor Repair: 1970 massey ferguson 35, massey ferguson 35, neutral safety switch

yesterday i used pushing trees to i went to start the tractor it just as if the battery was flat its not the battery i didnt think would be the starter motor, how can i start it direct from motor, because it mite be the ignition, could you let me know what it could be thank you

Hello,

  Check the battery cable connections to make sure they are clean and tight.  Check where the ground cable attaches to the tractor chassis to make sure it's clean and tight.  Check the connections at the starter solenoid.  Use a voltmeter or test light to check for power to the key switch and back to the starter.  There may be a neutral safety switch to prevent starting in gear or a clutch pedal switch, so check that also.  I am not a MF expert as stated in my profile, so I don't know what type of safety switch it could have, or where it would be located.  To verify that the starter will work, you could try jumping across the terminals on the starter solenoid to bypass the ignition switch, safety switch, and wiring, but only do this with someone in the seat holding down the clutch pedal to prevent it from running over you in case it should start and was in gear.
