Tractor Repair: 1962 B-275 International PTO Shaft Assembly, pto shaft, shaft assembly

Question
I have a problem with my PTO Internal Lever Assembly. I can pull the shaft right out of the cover. There is no pin in the end of the shaft and I have taken the cover off to see if there is any parts/steel inside and can't locate anything? What do I need to do to repair this problem? Do I have to take the whole top of the crankcase off to get in there. I ran a magnet in there and was not able to recover the third piece of the assembly? Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Kent

Answer
Hello,

I don't think you will have any choice but to remove the entire top of the rear frame.  With the cover off and the oil drained, you should be able to find the missing piece.  There is a pin that fell out that is supposed to hold the shift assembly onto the end of the shaft.  The pin is pressed or driven in and probably got loose and worn out until it fell out completely.   To see a breakdown of the parts, go to caseih.com, click on parts, and do an online parts search.  Enter your model in the search box, then click search, then select the chassis section.  Select pto, and you will see an exploded view of the parts with all the part numbers.
