Tractor Repair: Ford 1520 hydraulics, point hitch, poppet

Question
My Ford 1520 3-point hitch constantly raises up and down a few inches when in the up position (also leaks down when turned off).  I understand that there is a valve under the seat that is the problem.  Is that true, and if so, how do I replace it?

Answer
Hello,

It could be in the valve or it could be the seals on the lift piston.  The lift cover would have to be removed and all the parts inspected, and repairs made as necessary.  There could be a poppet or spool sticking in the valve, or maybe a blown o-ring.  The seals on the lift piston could be worn or the cylinder could be scored.  There is no way to know for sure until it is disassembled.
