Tractor Repair: re 885xl rising oil in sump, diesel pump, injector pump

Question
QUESTION: hi

I asked a question before about rising oil in sump.  there is only one diesel pump on the tractor (the injector pump).  I took injector pump off and got it tested again , it is fine. I dipped the engine this morning and there is oil in the sump, (was drained thoroughly prior to putting bung back in). No diesel lines are connected at all. Is there any way some other oil could be getting in? The tractor was very smokey prior to me noticing this problem. The engine has been recently overhauled, smoking since this was done.

could oil be getting in from the back end?

any suggestions thanks

ANSWER: Hello,

No, there is no way that any other oils can get except sometimes a machine with an engine mounted hydraulic pump can get hydraulic oil into the engine.  Is there an auxiliary hydraulic pump mounted on the engine?

QUESTION: No there is no auxiliary hydraulic pump.  I am baffled, a mechanic I have looking at it is baffled.  could oil be in the pistons and leaking out over time? Probably ridiculous idea?

Answer
If there was oil above the pistons, the engine would not turn over and would lock because you can't compress a liquid.  If it is oil and not fuel, then I have no other ideas.  Because this happened after being overhauled, and it started smoking after the overhaul, something must have gone wrong during the overhaul procedure.
