Tractor Repair: Farmall A Governor, weight assembly, throttle lever

Question
When I start the tractor the governor pulls forward and makes the tractor run wide open no matter what position the throttle lever is in. What would cause this and what do I need to do to fix it?

Answer
Hello,

If this problem just started suddenly, then the thrust bearing inside the governor probably fell apart.  The governor will need to be removed and the bearing replaced, and then the  weight assembly and everything else can be inspected for other problems.  If it started doing this after the engine was apart for a repair, then something needs to be adjusted or is assembled incorrectly.  The rod between the governor and the carburetor should be set to the correct length so that when the governor and carburetor are both at wide open position, the ends of the rod can be connected without moving anything.

                      Good luck,
