Tractor Repair: Removing brake drums., axle shaft, brake drums

Question
What is the process in removing the brake drums from a 1941
Ferguson 9N tractor, and also replacing the axle seals?

Answer
Hello,

Remove the wheel and unbolt the axle retainer from the end of the axle housing.  Remove the drum, axle shaft, and brake assembly as a unit.  The only way to separate the axle shaft and drum from the retainer and brake assembly is to cut the axle shaft bearing and retaining collar since they are a tight press fit onto the axle shaft.
Unfortunately, this is the only way to access the brake shoes and seal.  The bearing and collar will have to be torched off and then replaced with new ones.  Once the bearing and collar are removed, the retainer and brake assembly can be pulled off the axle shaft to replace the brakes and replace the seal.
