Tractor Repair: diesel engine, full stream, free fuel


Question
the engine was running find, starting on first crank.  i changed all of the filters, air, fuel, oil, and water, plus gthe oil.  the engine started up on first crank then shut right down.  tried again and the same thing happened.  now it just turns over and won't even try.  any suggestions would be appreciated.  thanks you.

Hello,

  You must still have air trapped in the fuel system from when you changed the fuel filter.  Even if you bled the filter after changing it, sometimes there is still air somewhere.  You didn't say what brand or model this machine is, so sometimes the procedure is different, but here is a generic list of things to do.  Bleed the filter again, and if there is a lift pump, keep pumping while you loosen the line fittings between the filter and the injection pump.  If there are any bleeders on the injection pump, open them too.  When bubble free fuel comes out, close everything back up.  Now loosen the injection lines at each injector.  Crank the engine over at full throttle until fuel squirts out full stream at each injector.  Tighten everything back up and it will fire right up.
