Tractor Repair: case 2390 clutch and transmission adjustment, intermediate shaft, external cables

Question
need to know how to adjust external cables to get transmission to engage

Answer
Hello,

Not sure what type of transmission engagement problem you have, so I will try to cover everything.
If you are having trouble getting the 4 speed range transmission to engage, the nuts on the cables on the right of the transmission  can be adjusted, but that won't help much to get the gears to engage.  That adjustment is mainly to center the shift lever quadrants inside the right hand console so the lever will fit between them for easier shifting.  On the shift shaft arms where the cables are attached, there are woodruff keys that can shear off, and then the cables and shift arms won't move the gears.  There are also roll pins inside the transmission side cover that can break as well.  If you are referring to the powershift, the only adjustment for that cable is to center the lever in the slot so all 3 forward speeds and reverse can be achieved.  The clutch pedal cable should be adjusted so that when the pedal is all the way up, it pushes the inching spool on the powershift valve all the way down.  If this tractor does not move at all, then either the torque limiter has failed, there is no hydraulic pressure to the powershift clutches, the transmission input shaft is broken, or the transmission intermediate shaft drive gear is broken off.
