Tractor Repair: 7000 ford row crop pto, steel shaft, oil distributor


Question
i had new pto clutches put in and cut hay for about 4 and one half hours. then pto quit.  have checked pressure on hydraulic pump.  the rear hydraulic pressure is app.2300
and the pto pressure goes from 0-160 it goes up and down.
have took pump out and cleaned screen and put new oil in it
when they worked on clutches.  any ideas?

 Hello,

  Usually, the pto clutch oil distributor has grooves worn in it where the steel shaft sealing rings rotate inside it.  Then the oil supply to the pto clutch will leak out.  The snap ring in the pto clutch drum could have jumped out of the groove, but it's not very likely.  Were the pto clutch piston seals replaced when the repair was done?  If not, they should have been.  Sometimes the splines on the shaft that drives the pto clutch strip out.
