Tractor Repair: Charging Light, generator voltage regulator, light ford

Question
FORD 5000 - I have replaced the generator & voltage regulator(charged OK at this point) and found out the battery was no good. After replacing battery and corroded positive cable, the charging light stays on all the time. Is there any thing else I can check or replace?

Answer

  Hello,

If this problem just happened after changing the battery and cable, I can only assume it is related to what you just did.  I know this sounds stupid and I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but make sure the battery cables are not hooked up backwards, and that all the wires were connected correctly at the starter when you changed the positive cable.  You say it charged OK after replacing the generator and voltage regulator, and this just occurred after replacing the battery and cable, so I don't know what else it could be.  Also check if some wires got bumped when changing the cable, possibly pulling a connection apart.  There's always the possibility it's a coincidence and has nothing to do with what you just did, and maybe the new generator or voltage regulator quit working.
