Tractor Repair: Trying to replace spindle on mower deck of craftsman lawn tractor, craftsman lawn tractor, left hand thread

Question
I hit a tree root on my Craftsman lawn tractor, and damaged the star mount for the blade that is at the bottom of the spindle. I've been trying to remove the spindle. I had my brother hold the blade steady as I turned the top nut with a wrench, but our combined strength was not enough to make it yield. Are we missing some trick or tecnique? It is so resistant that I wonder if it was meant to come off at all!

   Hello,

   Make sure it is not a left-hand thread on the spindle which would require turning the opposite way to remove the nut.  If it's still too tight to remove with regular tools, take it somewhere that has a large pneumatic impact wrench which will probably break it loose.  If it's severely rusted, the nut might have to be heated with an acetylene torch.
