Tractor Repair: run out of diesel, ford 5000, tractor maintenance

Question
Hi there,

I did a foolish thing and let my ford 5000 run out of diesel.    I purchased a farm last year and am still learning about tractor maintenance etc.  I know I have to bleed out the air and possibly change the fuel filter, but I don't know how to go about this.  Any chance you could describe the procedure to get my tractor re-started?  I don't have a manual for the tractor.  Any help would be great,

Thank you,
Renee

Answer

  Hello Renee,

The first thing you will have to do is bleed the filters.  Open the bleed screw on top of the filters and pump the primer until fuel with no bubbles comes out and close the bleed screw.  Then loosen the injector line fittings on all the injectors and crank the engine like you're trying to start it until fuel with no bubbles comes out at the injector fittings.  Tighten them back up and it should start right up.
I would highly suggest getting a manual, it will help you in the future with lots of things.

                  Take care,
