Tractor Repair: Power Steering on Ford 4000, power steering fluid, steering wheel

Question
We have a 1969 Ford 4000,when I was driving it, and suddenly I saw a brown liquid, or power steering fluid running down the steering column, do you have any suggestions on a problem.

Answer

   Hello,

The seal is leaking on the steering shaft and will have to be replaced.  The seal is at the bottom of the steering column tube where it attaches to the power steering unit.  It's filling  up the entire tube until it runs out from under the steering wheel.  The seal part number should be  E1NN3N632AA.  For a diagram of the unit, see this webpage: https://webparts.pvassociates.net/cnh/main.php

Type in your model number and click "search", then go to the steering and front axle section.  Choose the correct year and model of the tractor and click on it.  It will show a breakdown and all the part numbers.

                         Good luck,
