Tractor Repair: farmall cub, fuel line filter, mains charger

Question
I have farmall cub that It was running when I plowed my field this spring.I wanted to grow a cover crop this fall and my tractor did not start.I had no spark. I purchased  another magneto and timed the engine to the magneto and it started. While plowing my field the tractor stopped and no mater what I do the tractor will not start. The gas is getting to the cyclinder. I tried either and nothing works I am confused The points, roter and cap are new.do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Jerry.
You had not used the tractor since the spring and wonder why it did not start now! Hardly surprising!
So why did you buy a magneto surly a battery would have been better?
OK Before getting the magneto did the engine turn over on the starter ?
I expect not as it would have been quite flat.its best to disconnect the battery if its not going to be used for a few weeks/months and then charge it every 2 months or so by using a mains charger!
its likely that it was not being turned over fast enough to generate a spark if the battery was down! Also depending on were the tractor was stored that it may have got damp.
the terminals corroded etc.
So out in the field it stopped . I assume that this is a electric start with a petrol engine and not tvo/petrol but a strait petrol engine.
It could be dirty fuel a blocked fuel line /filter etc.
the points may have moved but expect you have checked these again, did you check the color of the plugs and there condition! you have plenty of fuel /oil/ water? again is the engine spinning over fast enough --sparks? mags are usualy very reliable but they must spin over to get a spark of course.
check all electrical connections are they clean ?
Have you tried a second battery and a jump start or a tow?
Thats all about there is to do cant think of any thing else to suggest at this time.
