Tractor Repair: John Deere LT155, battery terminal, electrical connections

Question
My LT155 won't start.  I put the battery charger on it on 50amp boost and it still will not start.  It clicks in the module between the battery and the starter but will not turn the engine.  The cable to the starter gets hot after I turn it over a few times.  I hate to start buying parts and replacing them before I have an idea what I need.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Hi Jim.
The module you refer to is probably the solenoid this engages the starter which in turn turns the engine or not! Firstly I should check all electrical connections particularly the battery main connections these can easily corrode. Dismantle then wire brush inside and out, apply some copper grease to each and refit.
Avoid using the 50 amp booster if you can, a long re charge is less damaging to the battery, long term.
Depending on how old the tractor is it may be worth stripping the starter and checking the brushes etc. you must have a good elec contact at all times.
Also what is the volt reading at the battery terminal? And how old is the bat.
Martin.
