Tractor Repair: Sears Suburban Garden Tractor, brigs and stratton, head gasket leak

Question
I have an ancient 16Hp tractor that had a head gasket leak.  After dismantling  the top end I found that I couldn't get a replacement gasket (they don't make them anymore), so I did my best with the old one and put it all back together. Some how I not sure if I did it or one of my helpful sons did it but it got out of time??? I think??? Anyway how do I reset the timing? I've tried everthing that I can, there is spark and the carb seems to be functioning correctly. This is an older (1970's) 16hp engine that has always run like a champ.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve
Yes I can see the problem as to the head gasket have you tried other suppliers that may have old stock? Also the WWW try surfing also eBay can spring some surprises.
Can you make one from solid copper sheet?
Not sure what engine is fitted is it a Brigs and Stratton, single cylinder 4 stroke?
More info please --If as above the flywheel is usually held on with a single nut on a tapered shaft along with a keyway! And can only be fixed in one position.
Tell me more.
