Tractor Repair: MF 1100: ignition problem, starter fluid, pipe work

Question
I bought this tractor a month ago, it had been setting for fifteen years. The tractor starts and runs in the beganning, after the you spray some starting fluid, but now it is having problem. Problem is even when starting fluid is used, most of the time it starts and die down. Some time it starts and run for a while until the engine warm-up, then it shuts-off on its own. I had replace both fuel filters and did the fuel bleeding on the fuel filter and the fuel injector lines one at a time. The only bleeding I have not done is the injection pump. The tractor is still causing the same problems. Please help...

Answer
HI mang
Normally a good tractor but no vehicle like to be left standing around in any country 15 years is a long time.
Was it out in the open and did it have a vertical uncovered exhaust letting in the rain, and if so  the sump may have been full of water and damage may have been done by running it !!!!
AVOID USING ANY STARTER FLUID THIS CAN CAUSE MORE LONG TERM DAMAGE WITH EXCESSIVE WARE TO THE BORES ETC
QUESTIONS :-
DID YOU CHECK THE OIL/WATER IN SUMP does it look milky now. This means water in the sump
DID YOU CHECK/DRAIN FUEL/WATER IN TANK AND THE REST OF THE PIPE WORK.
DID YOU CHECK FOR LEAKS IN RADIATOR --DOES IT HOLD WATER DOES THE FAN /BELT DO ITS WORK --IS THE FAN ROTATING. CORRECTLY ALL THESE THING SHOULD HAVE BEEN Checked BEFORE EVAN ROTATING THE MOTOR. BUT PERHAPS YOU DID ! For at least you had it running for a short while. In an ideal world the engine etc should have been completely striped before starting.
The danger is that rust nearly always forms inside and this rust brakes off and moves around in the oil and can cause all sorts of damage to bearings bores etc.!!!
Check all what i have said above and then drain the fuel tank and pipe work clean tank and fuel pipes and fill up with fresh diesel. new filter was a good move and bleeding this upto to the injectors was a good job done.
Of course you may not know what condition the tractor was in 15 years ago when it was parked up it may have been faulty at this time?
If it runs for a time then stops it may have over heated ?
engines usualy smell hot and sound bad if the are over heating . do not put cold water in radiator until the engine has cooled for some time. Do you have a manual. these can be found on the WWW very often on .CD .
let me know how you get on.
