Tractor Repair: MF-35 goes forward in reverse, mf 35, screw driver

Question
I have a 1963 MF-35 diesel, and yesterday I shifted it into reverse and it went forward as if in first gear. Reverse and first positions both act like first gear now, second and third positions both do nothing. Thanks for any advise you can offer.

Answer
Robin this is a common fault with 35 and 135 when the selectors wear some what but easy to fix for the time being.
But a permanent fix would be to replace the worn parts but the cost of this is very high.
The best way to do it is to park the tractor on level ground hand brake on depress the clutch to take load from the transmission.
Remove the oil filler plug next to the gear stick and with the gear lever in the neuatral position move the selector to neuatral replace the plug and you should have all gears back to normal.
This problem will happen again at some time so leave the plug finger tight and keep a screw driver in the tool box.
Robin hope this helps with your problem please drop me a line and let me know how it goes.
