Tractor Repair: Kohler lawn tractor, old, voltage gauge, lawn tractor

I have a Kohler 124 model K301A spec.#47504d ser#900692. I have a wiring problem. When I try to crannnk the engine the starter stays engaged even when the key is off. I reringed the motor and must have somethinng hooked up wrong. The 1st. time I started it it did fine then but showed discharge on the voltage gauge.I ran it a while and ran out of gas. When I tried to restart it it stared the sticking thing. The battery was weak but not dead.I sure thought I hooked it up right but evidently not.

Mike it sounds like a faulty solinoide that has bad contacts in side it if you replace it and recharge the battery this should fix the problem as it worked once ok.
