Tractor Repair: Craftsman Lawn Tractor, craftsman lawn tractor, transmission belt

I have a Craftsman 19HP Twin Cooled 42" Lawn Tractor. The clutch appears to be working but the transmission will not go into gear. The linkage appears OK. I can also move the gear shift without engaging the clutch which ordinarily I shouldn't be able to do. I am hoping I don't need a new transmission. Any advice?

Kevin is the transmission belt drive on your tractor if so is the belt ok and when you move the lever does the tractor move.
If the answer is no look at the clutch or the drive belt this is the main cause of throuble on machines here in Australia.
