Tractor Repair: 4th starter motor - uggh ! Help!, budjet, starter motor

Question
Hi Dan:

First off let me thank you for your time  - I have been looking at the old questions and you are a busy man - thanks  - it really is appreciated.

Heres my problem - I have a JD 2350. I have replaced the starter motor - with solenoid -  three times (with used ones) and it just went again. I could hear it going bad. Last time I replaced the ignition switch thinking that the ignition was keeping the solenoid engaged and thats what was wearing them out. The flywheel looks ok - the batteries I replaced last time (1 year ago)  Any ideas as to what could be causing this? SHould I replace the wiring harness? It looks OK. ANy ideas would be apperciated.

Answer
Mike please tell me is the battery the correct one for the tractor or is it a battery that fitted the spot and your budjet as this is some times the problem.
Fitting the budjet I meen matey as the battery is cheap and is usually to small in its capacity.
Big battery big cranking amps and longer life of battery and starter and the other thing is if the stater was as old as the original one then it could be that it has the same problem as yours 3 or 4 second hand units.
A new one would be a better proposal I think try putting a new unit in this would be better economy.
The wiring harness is the last thing I would replace if it looks ok.

        Kind regards Danny Last
