Tractor Repair: Transmission and shifter on MF 135, caile mississippi, mf 135

Question
Dear Sir,
I am in Caile, Mississippi with a Massey Fergenson 135 diesel.I believe its a TO 135 bought in the early 70's. This week I was in the field when I put it in reverse. It will not shift out of reverse. It has two shifters, one for high and low and the main shifter which is for 1,2,3 and reverse. With it in this position I can drive only in rev. and the clutch works. Other than removing the whole steering assembly to get to the top of the inside of the trans. I cannot figure out how to disengage it from rev.
Do you have any ideas.
Thanks,
Jim Gholston

Answer
Jim yes I do have the fix for your problem firstly it is a trade secrete so do not tell any one.
No matey just kidding about the trade secrete ok just remove the large filler plug on top of the transmission case look in the hole you can see the selector forks and rails all you need to do is using a long screw driver is move the gear lever to the reverse positon to see which selector is the one and which way it needs to go make sure the hand brake is on please and depress the clutch pedal.
Then move gear lever back to neutral then move the selctor fork/ rail to neutral you should then be able to select all gears again this problem will happen again as the selectors wear on top and it is a large job to replace them and costly so you will need to do it again some time as descibed above.
Hope this helps the problem if not drop me a line Jim.
