Tractor Repair: 3 point hitch hydraulics, kubota l185, kubota tractors

Question
I am in North Texas, USA and recently bought a 1980 Kubota L185. My problem is lack of smooth contol on the three point hitch. It seems, in moving the lever up or down, that raising and dropping is too abrupt, and doesn't hold well at varying midpoint levels. Does this sound like valve, seal ,or? problems?

Answer
Ron on some of the Kubota tractors the three point hitch is no more than a spool valve with up and down only.
The other type of valve is called position control this type of valve allows you to move up and down in small amounts but the other type will raise to a point and then the lever kicks out to hold.
How ever on the lowering of the linkage there should be a valve that slows the oil flow and you should be able to drop linkage at a slow rate.
Ron I am not sure where it is on your machine it is like a tap to shut the flow of oil from the cylinder.
See if you can find the tap and play with it to set the drop rate of the linkage matey.
Let me know how you go and hope this information helps you out with the problem.
