Tractor Repair: AC D-17 Diesel, allis chalmers tractors, torque tube

Question
I have an AC D-17 Diesel that has been turned around and made into a hay sweep.  I would like to put a forward/reverse shuttle in it.  Like an AC forklift has. Is this possible and what does it take?  Specifically, do I need to have a forklift torque tube, or can I just change gears?

Answer
Hi Andy
I really am not that famillar with the Allis-Chalmers tractors but from the little work I have done on them I think you would need a shuttle shift transmission from a Industrial model or from a fork lift. The ones I have worked on have the shuttle as part of the transmission it's self. Hope this will help some Big Dean
