Tractor Repair: 1953 Ford NAA, ford naa, 12volts

Question
Big Dean,

My solenoid simply clicks away when I push the start button near the gear shift. I want to hook up a new on/off switch but need to know what wires go where.
wire 1- 12volts/solenoid
wire 2- Goes to altenator
wire 3- From resistor near coil
The switch I has 3 mark terminals.
1 - 12v
2 - ACC
3 - Ground
What goes where
Normal starting is to turn this switch on then push the start button.
Any other ideas on this clicking after I re-install the switch. Just put in a new solenoid thinking this was the problem.

Best Regards,
Chris Bernard

Answer
Hi Chris
If the solenoid will click you do not need to replace the switch that is not your problem. If you have replaced the solenoid & it is still clicking but the starter will not turn then your problem is either in the starter it's self  /  The cable going from the starter to the solenoid has a bad connection on one end or the other / A weak battery / Dirty battery cable ends or  Those starter were bad to lock the starter drive or better known as the starter bendix in the flywheel. That will cause the problem you are having also. To get it unlocked you put the transmission in high gear and rock the tractor backwards with the tire till you turn the engine that will usually make the drive gear pop out of the flywheel. Hope this helps Big Dean
