Triumph Repair: TR7 rear brake adjusters, british car clubs, life span

Question
Good evening Howard,
Having renovated the seats in my wife's TR7 I took it for an MOT but it has failed because the teeth on the rear hand brake adjusters have worn away. I have tried to find a spare set on the Internet but to no avail. Would you have any idea where I can obtain a set or how they could be repaired?

Thank you

Regards

Alan

Answer
Hi Alan,

That is not a normal part that wares out so you are right that it would be hard to locate in the aftermarket.

We use to be able to find TR-7s in salvage years here in the US but they have long since dried up. There were two different rear ends used in the TR-7 through it's life span but I don't remember if the brakes were designed different or not.

All across the US the TR-7 is still found in British car clubs and many members have what they refer to as "Donner Cars" or parts cars. So that is a source of used parts here for odd parts that can't be had from the aftermarket companies.

What year TR-7 do you have? And can you take a picture of the part you have that is bad? I may be able to tell you how to fix it.

You must have clubs there in the UK too so try to get in contact with several and see if they have a web site and a news letter to members and put in a request for that part.

If all fails I have a TR-7 parts car but it is the later model and I am too old to go out in the woods where it is and remove brake parts but may be able to talk my grandson into pulling parts off of it. But I need to know what year your car is and what the part looks like.
