Triumph Repair: 1980 triumph spitfire, chrome bumpers, rubber bumpers

Question
basically my husband has seen so many spitfires with chrome bumpers that are nice and tucked up against the front and rear end of the car. Now, we have a 1980 spitfire 1500 and we were wondering if any of you could tell us how to get these bumpers or what year spitfire to swap it from and what year is best to swap with our 1980? thank you so much

Answer
Hi JoAnne,

Agreed that the older "CB" (chrome bumper)Spitfires are more attractive and some of later Spitfires get modified to use the chrome bumpers. It is not just a matter of purchasing the bumpers and bolting them on. Because the mounts are different. However any shop with fabricating skills can easily make adapters to fit the chrome bumpers. I don't think there were any in production but most any repair shop or good body shop can make the adapters to bolt on the chrome bumpers in place of the rubber bumpers.

I believe the chrome bumpers are available from companies like Moss Motors and the Roadster Factory. They have web sites and toll free numbers to call and ask about the chrome bumpers that are available. I have had many dealings with both these companies and both are reputable companies.
