Triumph Repair: 1980 spitfire turn signal, turn signal flasher, forward side

Question
QUESTION: I am trying to replace the relay switch. My manual show it behind the center dash panel near the tachometer, but I cannot locate the old one to replace it. Does the relay plug into a panel or just hangs under the dash and you pull off the two wires?

It would seem like a simple repair to do.

ANSWER: Hi Rick,

I take it you mean the turn signal flasher unit which is not a relay. It is a very small two flat spade connector metal can, usually a small rectangle shaped can mounted on the forward side of the dash near the speedometer. It is fitted in a spring clip. Some were small round cans but I don't remember which the 80 Spitfire had.

QUESTION: It is a square unit. I cannot contort enough to see where it might go exactly. Is there an easy way of removing that section of the dash. The center panel was screwed on from the front, but I don't know how that section is attached.

Thank you for your help. I do appreciate it.

Answer
You may need a small mirror and a light to see it. It should be just below the speedometer mounted in a spring clip. Remove the lower panel under the dash and take a light and a mirror. You should not have to remove much of anything to gain access to it.
