Triumph Repair: Wiper wheel box, british car club, wheel boxes

Question
Howard, I've removed the wiper wheel boxes from my 72 Spitfire to have the body repainted.  In doing so the wheel box threads were stripped by the nuts... too corroded.  Any idea where I can purchase replacement wheel boxes.  I've looked on most US Spitfire catalogs and can't come up with one.

Answer
Hi Dan,

If the parts suppliers no longer list them you might try to contact your closest British car club and any shop that specializes in working on British cars. They will know where most parts-cars are. Just about every major city in the US have both. Through them you should be able to track down some wheel boxes. As a last resort you might check to see what domestic die will cut the next size down in threads. I believe there is enough stock on that part of the wheel box to go down to the next size threads. If you are trying to keep it looking original you could then cut the outside of the nuts down and have them chromed to look original. Another option is to look at the MG wheel boxes as they look alike. I never tried to switch them but my guess is that they are all made by the same manufacture.
