Triumph Repair: spitfire parking / marker lights, dash lights, light position

Question
My 1976 spitfire parking/marker/dash lights only work with headlight switch in full on (headlight) position, not in the parking light position.
-switch is new
-parking/marker/dash lights work when red/green wire is removed from switch and jumped direct to brown power lead removed from switch.
-all bulbs functional.
-all contacts clean.

Answer
Hi William,

The main head light switch has only three positions and that is Off, Park & Head lights and If you look at the back of the switch you should see numbers next to each spade connection.

#3 gets the power wire (brown) #2 gets the Red w/green tracer (dash and park lights) and #1 gets the Blue head light switch wire.

When you have the switch in the OFF position there is no contact between any of terminals.

When you have the switch in the second position #2 and #3 terminals are connected together. (power to park and dash lights)

When you have the switch in the third position #1, #2 and #3 terminals are connected together. (Power to park & dash and to the head light switch)

You either have the wires plugged into the wrong terminals on the switch or the switch is no good which is easily tested with the switch out and tested with a ohm meter or just a battery and a test light. You have already confirmed that the car and it's wiring are ok.
