Triumph Repair: possible fuel problem, head gasket, head gaskets

Question

One more thing. I was referencing a mark III manual which said to coat the head gasket with a non setting gasket compound, which I did. I am hoping this is not a problem.

Answer
If you didn't put too much on it, there may not be problem but you should not put any sealer on a head gasket as most head gaskets are coated with a expanding sealer. The only time you should put a sealer on one is when there are mars or scratches in either surface and resurfacing is not advisable.

If you used a thin coat, I wouldn't worry about it but do re-torque the head in a few hundred miles and be sure to do it on a stone cold engine.
