Triumph Repair: TR Chassis choice, tr4a, tr5

Question
Hi Howard,- Happy New Year.
A question of construction interest,-
The TR6 chassis was adopted from the TR4a. And not from the TR5 which is 2" shorter wheelbase.
What were the factors governing the choice?ie did Triumph find that the shorter TR5 wheelbase was a mistake? If so, why?
Cheers, Nick.

Answer
Hi Nick,

First, I didn't know the TR-5 had a shorter wheel base. I worked on Triumph from the TR-3 to the TR-8 but only seen one TR-5. Not many were brought into the US. I thought that the TR-5 was just a fuel injected version of the 6. Didn't know it had a shorter wheel base. So I can't shed much light on the subject.

I am surprised to hear that any manufacture would make a completely different car just to fuel inject it.

Sorry, I can't help.

Howard
